ATB Invoicing works in Canadian dollars (CAD) only. This article answers common questions about currency on quotes, invoices, and payments.
Which currency does ATB Invoicing use?
Every quote, invoice, payment, and dashboard amount is in Canadian dollars. Amounts appear in the format $1,234.56.
You can see this in your organization settings. Open your profile menu, select Manage Organization, and look at the Settings section. The Currency field shows CAD — Canadian Dollar and cannot be changed.
Can I choose a different currency for a customer?
No. There is no currency setting on customers, quotes, or invoices. Every customer is billed in Canadian dollars.
Why is CAD the only option?
The payment methods in ATB Invoicing are Canadian. Interac e-Transfer Requests are created in Canadian dollars, and EFT, cheque, and cash payments are recorded against Canadian-dollar invoice totals.
What if my customer wants to pay in another currency?
ATB Invoicing cannot invoice or accept payment in another currency. If you work with customers outside Canada, you can:
- Invoice them in Canadian dollars and let them handle the conversion through their bank.
- Agree on the Canadian-dollar amount with your customer before you send the quote or invoice.
Note. If a customer pays from a foreign-currency account, their bank converts the funds. Any conversion fees or exchange differences are between your customer and their bank. Confirm the amount you received before you select Mark as paid.
Does currency affect sales tax?
No. GST/HST and PST/QST are calculated on the Canadian-dollar amounts on the quote or invoice. See What do I need to know about charging GST, PST, or QST?.
