If you accidentally send a quote or invoice to the wrong recipient, take action immediately to secure your document and ensure it reaches the correct person.
Step 1: Revoke link access immediately
Revoking access instantly locks the web permalink for the wrong recipient, preventing them from viewing or verifying the document—even if they open the original link.
- Go to Invoices or Quotes and select the document.
- Scroll to the Share link card on the preview page.
- Click Revoke access.
Verification: Confirm that the Share link card displays a revoked status, indicating external access is completely locked.
Step 2: Correct the recipient details
How you fix the recipient depends on whether you entered the wrong contact information for the customer, or assigned the wrong customer account entirely:
Option A: You entered incorrect details for the right customer
- Navigate to Customers and select the customer profile.
- Update their Email Address or Phone Number.
- Save your changes.
Option B: You selected the wrong customer entirely
Because sent quotes and invoices lock key fields and cannot be assigned to a different customer directly, you must replace the document:
- Click the ... (More Options) menu on the specific quote or invoice and select Void.
- Click the ... menu again and select Duplicate.
- In the new draft builder, select the correct customer under Bill To.
- Save and issue the new quote or invoice.
Verification: Check the customer profile or the new draft document to verify the correct customer name, email address, or phone number.
Step 3: Deliver the document to the correct person
Once access to the original link is revoked and recipient details are corrected, deliver the document to the intended recipient:
- If you updated contact details (Option A): Return to the original document preview page, click Restore access, and select Send to dispatch a new magic link via email or SMS.
- If you duplicated and reissued (Option B): Send the newly created quote or invoice directly from the builder or preview page.
Important security notes
- Sent quotes and invoices are locked: Once sent, core details are permanently locked. Voiding and duplicating is the official way to reissue an invoice to a completely different customer.
- Magic link expiration: Magic links require user verification and automatically expire after 15 minutes, providing an added layer of security even if a link was delivered to an unintended email address.
